Tohoku University Medical Physics Seminar, which is held annually by Tohoku University, was held on Saturday, November 21. This year, the theme of the seminar was “Quality Improvement” and “Efficiency” of treatment planning, and nearly 400 people attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program of this year’s conference consisted of an introduction in the first part, “Quality Improvement” in the second part, and “Streamlining” in the third part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first part, three vendors (Dr. Kadoya, Dr. Iwai, and Dr. Adachi) explained the contents of optimization calculations that are necessary when creating IMRT. This was a great learning experience for me as well, as I think there are many cases where we usually perform IMRT optimization but do not fully understand the details of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the second part, two medical physicists (Dr. Saito and Dr. Nakajima), who have a lot of experience in creating IMRT treatment plans in actual clinical practice, talked specifically about treatment planning methods for the prostate and head and neck region. To make it easier to understand the content, we asked them how they would plan if they had 1 hour, 2 days, or 5 days. In order to make the content easier to understand, he carefully explained how to plan for different planning times in the form of “If you had 1 hour, 2 days, or 5 days, how would you plan? I am sure that many participants found this information very useful as they can immediately apply it in their clinical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the third part, four doctors (Dr. Tamura, Dr. Mukawa, Dr. Nawa, and Dr. Katsuta) explained in detail about Rapid plan, Script function, Auto planning, and Template, which are used as methods to practice IMRT to improve efficiency. All of them explained in an easy-to-understand manner, including their actual clinical applications, and all of them seemed to be able to be introduced immediately at facilities that have these functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are not sure whether we will have an online or face-to-face format next year, but we hope to plan a seminar that will be useful and interesting for the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n
