We are pleased to report that we, Mr. Kanai (D2), Mr. Nakajima (D1), Mr. Abe (M1), Mr. Ieko (M1), Mr. Ikeda (M1) participated in the CMPFG 43rd Regular Meeting (7th Overnight Seminar) held on August 13-14, 2016, at Mahoroba Mines Miura (Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture).

This two-day seminar was held under the theme of “Development of log file analysis software using MATLAB – Beginner’s level -” and included exercises. 31 participants, including graduate students from Tokyo Metropolitan University and Tohoku University, and medical physicists who are active nationwide, attended. In the first part, Dr. Ken Kamomae (Nagoya University) gave a lecture on the basics of MATLAB, explaining the features and usefulness of MATLAB, from simple calculations using MATLAB to creating scripts using built-in functions, The participants learned basic usage of MATLAB. In the second part, Prof. Takehiro Shiiki (Yamaguchi University) gave a lecture on creating log file analysis software, utilizing the content of the first part. The lecture was very informative as a series of flow of creating analysis software. The opportunity to learn the essentials of using MATLAB, from the basics to creating analysis software, was very valuable and very meaningful. This seminar was an opportunity for me to further deepen my understanding of MATLAB, apply it to my own purposes, and make use of it in my future research and QA analysis.

At the opinion exchange meeting held on the evening of the first day, there was a lot of interaction with people from other institutions and universities, and I was able to hear from many people about not only research and clinical work, but also what I should do next after graduate school. I will continue to cherish these opportunities to broaden my perspective and grow as a person.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Suzuki of the National Cancer Center Hospital, the members of the Clinical Medical Physics Research Group, and the members of the Department of Radiation Science, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Tokyo Metropolitan University for providing us with this valuable opportunity. Thank you very much.
