Yoshiro Ieko(M2)
We are pleased to report that Dr. Kadoya and Mr. Abe(M2), Mr. Ieko(M2), Mr. Ikeda(M2), and Mr. Kon(M2) gave oral presentations at the 113th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Medical Physics held at Pacifico Yokohama from April 13 to 16, 2017.
The theme of the conference was “Let’s master radiology and expand radiological medicine,” and it was jointly held by the 76th Annual Meeting of the Japan Radiological Society (JRS), the 73rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Radiological Technology (JSRT), the 113th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Medical Physics (JSMP), and the 2017 International Technical Exhibition on Medical Imaging (JIRA). The JSRT, JSMP, and JIRA were held jointly.
I made a presentation on “Impact of 4D-CT ventilation imaging-based functional treatment planning for proton-SBRT” at JSMP. The effectiveness of functional planning based on 4D-CT ventilation has already been reported, and this time I presented the results of functional planning using X-rays with consideration of pulmonary function, with the aim of further reducing the dose to the high-function lung area. In this study, we attempted to apply this technique to proton therapy with the aim of further reducing the dose in the high-function lung region. In this analysis, the Bragg peak, a physical property of proton beams, was found to reduce parameters related to mean lung dose, low dose, and moderate dose in the lung function. However, the positional relationship between the high-functioning lung region and the tumor differed from case to case, and we felt the need to continue the analysis by increasing the number of cases.
I also gave an oral presentation at the Next Generation Session (student selection session) held at JSRT. This session, titled “Research Introduction Contest,” was a research introduction competition for students, in which students who had been selected in advance introduced their laboratories and presented their research. It was a very valuable experience for us to receive the Best Student Award for the most outstanding presentation. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported us and to the professors who guided us. Thank you very much.
Dr. Kakutani, an assistant professor, gave a presentation on “Educational outcomes of a medical physicist program in Japan for the past ten years with “Ganpro””. Dr. Kakutani, Assistant Professor, presented “Educational outcomes of a medical physicist program in Japan for the past ten years with “Ganpro”” and received the JSMP Congress Chair’s Award. Congratulations!
During the conference, the Clinical Medical Physics Meeting (CMPFG) held a reception, where we were able to interact with medical physicists who are active in other facilities and hear very informative talks about their future plans. I would like to continue to cherish such opportunities in the future.
I would like to apply the experience and knowledge I gained this time to my future research and clinical work and continue to devote myself to it.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me this opportunity. Thank you very much.

The weather was a bit inclement at the last tournament, but this time we were blessed with good weather!
