Kota Abe (M2)

I joined the 59th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) held in Denver, Colorado July 30-August 3, 2017. Besides, Dr. Kadoya (Assistant professor), Mr. Abe (D4), Mr. Kanai (D3), Mr. Nakajima (D2), Mr. Ieko (M2) joined the meeting.

I had ePoster presentation with title of “Feasibility of a novel evaluation method for deformable image registration-based dose accumulation for HDR brachytherapy with a deformable phantom”. In this study, we developed a novel measurement system with 3D-printed pelvis phantom and small dosimeters and evaluated the accuracy of DIR-based accumulated dose. Our results showed that this system enables us to know characteristics of various setting of DIR and has potential to decide suitable DIR settings in clinical use.
At the discussion there was a part that I couldn’t express what I want to explain in English, so I felt that it is necessary to improve my English.

In this meeting, there were many topics of 3D printer. The purpose of using 3D printer was not only to create a phantom, but also to create patient specific applicator in the field of Brachytherapy. I felt that the range of application of 3D printer is wide. However there are still few researches using 3D printer in Japan, so our group will continue the research using 3D printer.

I gratefully acknowledge support for my research from members of our laboratory.
