Takuya Matsumoto(M2)
We are pleased to report that Mr. Nakajima(D3), Mr. Matsuda(M2) and Mr. Matsumoto(M2) participated in WC2018 (IUPESM World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering 2018 ) held in Prague, Czech Republic from June 3 to 8, 2018. We are pleased to report that Dr. Nakajima, a third-year Ph.
WC is an international conference on medical physics and biomedical engineering organized by IUPESM (International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine) and is held every three years. The city where the conference is held differs each time, and this time it was held in Prague. Prague is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with its medieval streets still intact. Prague Castle, located on top of a hill in the Old Town, is said to be “the oldest and largest castle in the world,” and I was overwhelmed by its size.
I compared two different methods of 3D internal dose reconstruction, which is attracting attention as a new patient dose verification method, and presented a paper entitled “Quantifying the performance of two different types of 3D patient dose reconstruction: machine I gave an oral presentation entitled “Quantifying the performance of two different types of 3D patient dose reconstruction: machine log-file vs. machine log-file with EPID image”. Understanding the principles and features of each dose reconstruction method is very important for interpreting and judging the results of patient dose verification in clinical practice. In this verification, the performance of each system was quantitatively compared and analyzed.
This international conference was the first time for me to experience giving an oral presentation in English, and all discussions with other researchers, including the Q&A session, were conducted in English. Through this experience, I realized that English training is essential to have my research better understood by overseas researchers.
Since the conference is held once every three years, there was a great variety of presentations. I learned a lot from the presentations on artificial intelligence (AI) and radiomics, which have been attracting attention in recent years, as well as on DIR and patient QA, which are also themes of our laboratory. We hope to make use of the experience gained at this international conference in our future research.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the doctors who enthusiastically guided me during my presentation, and to the doctors of the Department of Radiology who gave me this precious opportunity to present my work abroad.
