I have attended the the annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology since my major is pathology.
I had a presentation on my current study from the pathological viewpoint, titled ‘Estimation of Gleason Pattern by Numerical Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging’.
Owing to the deadline of the abstract, I have only reported the preliminary analysis using the open dataset, instead of analysis of the clinical data of our university.
I discussed the consideration on the future position of diagnostic pathology, whereas It would look weird to discuss radiology in the pathology congress.
A participant whose major is radiology asked me a question on a very technical issue, suggesting a possible application of my study in future.
Another pathologist gave me a comment about the division of roles between radiology and pathology; I could confirmed that my sense on pathology is not very different from other pathologists.
One of the most interesting presentation was made by Dr Fujisawa from Okayama University.
They were discussing the thickness of pathological slides which affects the accuracy of the machine learning of pathological images; the management of the thickness would be crucial for machine diagnosis.
Similarly, in our field of radiology, the difference of imaging parameters affects the analysis of Magnetic Resonance Images.
Their study was highly informative, despite of the difference between radiology and pathology.
