January 9, 2026: Attended UREX-Tohoku Forum 2026

On January 9, 2026, the “UREX-Tohoku Forum 2026: Current Status and Prospects for an International Research University of Excellence” was held at the Tohoku University Centennial Memorial Hall, Kawauchi Hagi Hall, where Kakutani spoke.

The forum was held to share Tohoku University’s efforts to date and future vision, marking just over a year since the university began its journey as a University for International Research Excellence. Approximately 1,000 participants gathered, and there was an enthusiastic exchange of opinions on strengthening the university’s research capabilities and internationalization strategies.

Following a message from President Teiji Tominaga, department heads reported on their organizational missions and research strategies. A discussion was also held with researchers and entrepreneurs, engaging in multifaceted discussions on the future research environment and the potential for industry-academia collaboration.

Professor Kadoya took the stage at a session within the forum, commenting on the challenges facing Tohoku University as an internationally recognized research university and the direction of new research collaborations in the field of radiation medicine. It was striking how this forum further increased momentum for international collaboration in a wide range of academic and research fields, including areas such as radiation therapy and medical AI.

Going forward, this laboratory will continue to deepen collaboration with researchers both inside and outside the university, while contributing to realizing Tohoku University’s vision as an internationally recognized research university.
