Shiina Mouri(M2)

We are pleased to report that Mouri, a second-year master’s student in the Department of Radiation Oncology, and Segawa, a first-year master’s student, gave oral presentations at the 9th Korea-Japan Society of Medical Physics Joint Annual Meeting. Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, it was not possible for the students to go to the venue to present their papers, and the conference was held online.

I gave a presentation on “Development of a machine learning-based radiation pneumonitis prediction model combining conventional and functional dose parameters and clinical factors in non-small cell lung cancer patients. We investigated whether machine learning can improve the prediction accuracy of radiation pneumonitis by using a prediction index that adds dose parameters based on functional lung imaging to conventional dose parameters. The results of this study showed that machine learning with the addition of dose parameters based on lung function images may improve the prediction accuracy of radiation pneumonitis, but we felt that further study is necessary. At the conference, there were presentations on radiation pneumonitis prediction approached from other aspects, which were very helpful in terms of methods and ideas.

Finally, I would like to connect the experience and knowledge I gained through this presentation to my future research and conference presentations. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my supervisors and everyone who gave me the opportunity to present my paper.
